"28 R. da Veronica, Lisbon, Portugal"

"28 R. da Veronica, Lisbon, Portugal"
10" x 10"
Acrylic on canvas
"28 R. da Veronica, Lisbon, Portugal" is my first painting done from Bill Guffey's Virtual Paintout blog site. Google Street View was used to find a site in the city of Lisbon to paint. I didn't have much time to work on it, since I only became aware of this site near the end of the month. I feel I still have a lot of work to do on this, but it's a start. Lisbon, Portugal was our paintout site for September. Can't wait to see where we will paint out in October. "Wetland's Sentinel" was painted plein air at Wildwood Wetlands Park off Industrial Road in Harrisburg, PA The yellow lotus were in bloom; a possible rain threatened, but never arrived, and an egret kept us in awe with his beauty & grace. "Inherit the Wind" by Pat Koscienski

SOLD
"Inherit the Wind"
8" x 10"
Acrylic

Being a plein air landscape painter greatly influenced this painting. When painting it I could see the grasses and flowers blowing in an open field, and could almost feel the sun on my body. This is another abstracted landscape painting that I will have on exhibit at 2nd Floor Gallery during the month of September. I will be sharing a featured artist spot with friend & fellow artist Carolyn Gibboney. There will be a free wine & cheese reception this Saturday, September 19, from 7-10 pm. If in the area, plan to join us for some fun, good music, and good art! If interested in purchasing, contact Jeffrey Van Boskirk at 717-697-0502 during the month of September.

"Golden Haze" by Pat Koscienski

"Golden Haze"
24x49
Acrylic
This painting was done using a staining technique. Helen Frankenthaler, who used oil to stain her unprimed canvases, greatly influenced this painting. Because I used acrylic, and not oil paint, I will not have trouble with the canvas rotting as some of hers are beginning to do. Presently, this painting is in an exhibit at the Art Association of Harrisburg in PA and has taken an award in the "Structures" exhibit. The reception is Sunday, September 13 starting at 11:00 am. This is a starting point for the Gallery Walk in Harrisburg, PA the same day from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. If in the area, come join us. Many galleries and local business will be exhibiting and selling art. If interested in purchasing, contact Carrie Wissler Thomas or Terri Hosey at 717-236-1432 until mid Oct.

"And, Then There Was One" (DSFDF week 46-48 challenge -Cupcakes)

"And, Then There Was One"
Acrylic
8x10
"And, Then There Was One" was painted for the DSFDF (Different Strokes From Different Folks) week 46-48 challenge--Cupcakes.) The photo Karin Jurick posted for all to paint was a row of 5/6 cupcakes. The cupcakes were so appealing that I wanted to just reach into the monitor and have one with my coffee. To paint this vision was more of a challenge than I anticipated. Needless to say, I went through some cupcakes of my own. The other challenge I didn't anticipate was photographing the painting. I really had difficulty with getting the color of my painting on the screen. I knew the blue background of the monitor portion of the painting was a grayed blue, but I kept getting a phthalo-like blue. After many photo shots of my painting under different lighting and in different locations without success, I finally resorted to using Photo Shop to get the colors that are closer to the original painting. I'm still not sure the photo portrays the original painting. No doubt, this process will become better, or maybe even easier, with more practice. "River's Swamp Mallows" by Pat Koscienski

"River's Swamp Mallows"
Acrylic
9x12

More swamp mallows. They were abundant & beautiful this year. These were painted plein air along the Susquehanna River in Goldsboro, PA. I wanted to make them the subject of the painting again, rather than the vista of the river and islands. Couldn't resist!
