This painting was done for Lela Stankovic's Challenge on Paint and Draw Together Blogspot. We were to try to use the sfumato technique used by the masters where edges were lost and found. To quote what Lela described on her blog, she wanted "to create a composition with very soft lost and found edges. Something similar to having an impression that objects are appearing from and getting lost into the darkness behind, so frequent in the 17th century old masters oil paintings. Leonardo daVinci called this technique sfumato and described it as "without lines or borders, in the manner of smoke or beyond the focus plane".
My painting is so dark that I think I will later try to add some lighter colors, maybe in the metal. Although I think it is supposed to be reflecting the dark tablecloth.
