Flowers and Watering Can - acrylic floral still life painting on slate by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski
This was a first for me...painting on slate. It was a commission for a friend who hangs this piece outside of her house beneath her name. The photo shows the slate laying on my studio carpet. My only concern was how the acrylic paint was going to hold up in cold weather. I did apply UV varnish to give it protection against fading, however, I would sure hate to see the paint craze when those temperatures drop. If you have any questions, contact PAT. Dawn - acrylic still life painting of metal vase and cherries using sfumato technique by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski
This painting was done for Lela Stankovic's Challenge on Paint and Draw Together Blogspot. We were to try to use the sfumato technique used by the masters where edges were lost and found. To quote what Lela described on her blog, she wanted "to create a composition with very soft lost and found edges. Something similar to having an impression that objects are appearing from and getting lost into the darkness behind, so frequent in the 17th century old masters oil paintings. Leonardo daVinci called this technique sfumato and described it as "without lines or borders, in the manner of smoke or beyond the focus plane".
My painting is so dark that I think I will later try to add some lighter colors, maybe in the metal. Although I think it is supposed to be reflecting the dark tablecloth. Coffee Time - Impressionistic representational acrylic still life painting of coffee cup and cookies by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski
This painting was done from a photo Lela Stankovic posted for the Paint and Draw Together Blogspot Challenge. I liked the chiaroscuro challenge of it. Chiaroscuro is derived from the the latin words, chiaro meaning light and scuro meaning dark. It provides such a dramatic effect. Of course Rembrandt was the master of this technique, along with Caravaggio...if only I could channel them. If you have any questions, or wish to purchase, contact PAT. Tomatoes and Mushrooms - Acrylic Impressionistic Still Life by Pennsylvania Painter Pat Koscienski
This painting was done for the DPP Challenge for the month of September. September is National Mushroom Month and Pennsylvania is the leader in the production of mushrooms. These were white button mushrooms, but look more like baby bellas in my painting. I, also, went out in the woods photographing some of mother nature's mushrooms. Hopefully I will get a few of those painted. If you have any questions or wish to purchase, contact PAT. Persimmon and Old Lace - Acrylic Impressionistic Representational Still Life Painting by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski
This painting was done from a photograph posted by Lela Stankovic's Paint and Draw Together Blogspot. My mother, Mary Mesaros, and aunt, Mary Suk, both were good crocheters. I'm sure they are looking down on me right now and getting a good laugh on the exact painting of this doily. I hope they both realize I am an impressionist and not a realist and cannot paint every stitch as it is. With all the rain, it was very hard to get a good color in my photograph of this painting; the thread is much warmer in real life. If you have any questions, or wish to purchase, contact Pat. ACEO 2 - Original Acrylic Artist Card Still Life of Pears by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski
Another ACEO painting done with acrylic paint on canvas paper. This photo was provided by Lela Stankovic for one of the Paint and Draw Together challenges. It was such a great photo, I thought I would try it again, but in a much smaller format. This painting can be collected and placed in a plastic sleeve or matted and framed to a larger size. It can be framed or displayed on a small table easel. If you have any questions, e-mail Pat. If interested in viewing more of my art works, please visit my website.

Apple Harvest - Acrylic Impressionistic Representational Painting by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski
This painting was done from a photograph taken by Barb Benik for the November challenge on her blogspot Studio Atelier. The original photo had 4 apples and a background drape. I decided on only the 2 because I liked the vertical orientation of the stem. To see more versions of how this photo was painted for the challenge visit her StudioAtelierBlogspot. Lemons & Flower - Acrylic Palette Knife Impressionistic Still Life Painting by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski
This painting was done for Lela Stankovic's Paint and Draw Together Blogspot. It was done with a palette knife using acrylic paint on a gallery wrapped 12" x 12" canvas. The bowl in her photograph was translucent, and I must admit defeat with painting that translucency and painted it a more opaque bowl. For the sake of art, some things have to be altered for the viewer to see a more understandable piece....and, this was one of those times. I also cropped and flipped her photograph... Please visit Lela's PADT site to see the original photograph and the many renditions being submitted by other artists.
