Flowers and Watering Can - acrylic floral still life painting on slate by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski

Flowers and Watering Can
12" x 7"
Acrylic on slate
Sold

This was a first for me...painting on slate.  It was a commission for a friend who hangs this piece outside of her house beneath her name.  The photo shows the slate laying on my studio carpet.  My only concern was how the acrylic paint was going to hold up in cold weather.  I did apply UV varnish to give it protection against fading, however, I would sure hate to see the paint craze when those temperatures drop.  If you have any questions, contact PAT.  If you would like to see more of my paintings, both representational and abstract, please visit my website at:

Fields of Gold - original acrylic plein air landscape painting of hills of sunflowers by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski

Fields of Gold
8" x 10"
Acrylic on canvas

This painting was done plein air near Messiah College in Pennsylvania.  It had rained hard for several days before, and no matter how long we waited for the sun to draw the heads upward, it was not going to happen.  I went back several weeks later to punch in the dark tree & underbrush on the right;  the sunflowers' heads still were not at their grandest.  However, I still liked the contrast of the dark tree with the yellow, rolling hills.  And, who couldn't love that misty blue mountain in the background.

This painting is one of four of my paintings on exhibit with the SVPAP (Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters) group at Gallery 2318 in Camp Hill, PA.  Exhibit will be open every weekend in October....Saturday, 10 am - 4 pm;  Sunday, noon - 4 pm.

If in the area, please stop in.  There are 21 artists displaying their plein air paintings..

Morning's Quiet Secret - original acrylic plein air landscape painting of Pinchot Park Lake inlet by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski

"Morning's Quiet Secret"
11" x 14"
Acrylic on linen canvas

This painting was painted plein air at Pinchot State Park in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania.  It required a 2nd visit where several more hours were put into the painting.  A piece of land juts out into a small portion of the lake, much like a peninsula, creating this tranquil cove.  It was very peaceful the first visit there.  On the 2nd visit I had 2 visitors who came to fish and read.  The grandmother did the reading and a young boy did the fishing.  It made for an interesting morning.  Once again, I am having trouble with google rotating my photos.  After many hours, days, spent retaking photos with my Canon I decided to try my Hewlett-Packard with success.  However, the color of the blues are not as true as the Canon.  If you have any questions, or wish to purchase, contact PAT.  If you would like to see more of my paintings, both representational and abstract, please visit my website at:

New Cumberland Spillway - acrylic plein air landscape painting of the Yellow Breeches by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski

New Cumberland Spillway
14" x 11"
Acrylic on stretched canvas

This painting was started on 6-19-13 when some of the members of the SVPAP (Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters) met at this park.  I usually never paint longer than 2-3 hrs because of the light change.  However, I was not satisfied with the painting and went back by myself July 26, over a month later,  and did another 2-3 hrs worth of work. The painting doesn't have the 2 hr fast draw look, but I'm liking the more finished look a little better.   I walk this park several times a week, weather permitting.  It is 3/4 miles around, with the Yellow Breeches surrounding over half of the walk.  It is beautiful and during my 3 mile walk, I spend a lot of time studying this section of the stream.  New Cumberland, Pa., is where this stream empties into the Susquehanna River.  It is a fisherman's dream, and never a day goes by when there isn't at least 1 fisherman throwing out his line, but more often there are several.  The spillway is their favorite spot.  If you have any questions, or wish to purchase contact PAT.  If you would like to see more of my paintings, both representational and abstract, please visit my website at:

Dawn - acrylic still life painting of metal vase and cherries using sfumato technique by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski

Dawn
10" x 8"
Acrylic on canvas

This painting was done for Lela Stankovic's Challenge on Paint and Draw Together Blogspot.  We were to try to use the sfumato technique used by the masters where edges were lost and found.  To quote what Lela described on her blog, she wanted  "to create a composition with very soft lost and found edges. Something similar to having an impression that objects are appearing from and getting lost into the darkness behind, so frequent in the 17th century old masters oil paintings. Leonardo daVinci called this technique sfumato and described it as "without lines or borders, in the manner of smoke or beyond the focus plane".

My painting  is so dark that I think I will later try to add some lighter colors, maybe in the metal.  Although I think it is supposed to be reflecting the dark tablecloth.  If you have any questions, or wish to purchase, contact PAT.  If you would like to see more of my paintings, please visit my website at:
