"And, Then There Was One"
"And, Then There Was One" was painted for the DSFDF (Different Strokes From Different Folks) week 46-48 challenge--Cupcakes.) The photo Karin Jurick posted for all to paint was a row of 5/6 cupcakes. The cupcakes were so appealing that I wanted to just reach into the monitor and have one with my coffee. To paint this vision was more of a challenge than I anticipated. Needless to say, I went through some cupcakes of my own. The other challenge I didn't anticipate was photographing the painting. I really had difficulty with getting the color of my painting on the screen. I knew the blue background of the monitor portion of the painting was a grayed blue, but I kept getting a phthalo-like blue. After many photo shots of my painting under different lighting and in different locations without success, I finally resorted to using Photo Shop to get the colors that are closer to the original painting. I'm still not sure the photo portrays the original painting. No doubt, this process will become better, or maybe even easier, with more practice.
