Bull Elk - Acrylic Impressionistic Wildlife Painting by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski

Bull Elk
20" x 20"
Acrylic on canvas

This painting was done from a photo posted by Gary Keimig on his Wilderness Art Challenge blogspot. I took artistic liberty with the setting the elk is in...a little on the abstract side...maybe a little yin and yang with the representational and abstract? Apple Harvest
10" x 8"
Acrylic on canvas

This painting was done from a photograph taken by Barb Benik for the November challenge on her blogspot Studio Atelier. The original photo had 4 apples and a background drape. I decided on only the 2 because I liked the vertical orientation of the stem. To see more versions of how this photo was painted for the challenge visit her StudioAtelierBlogspot. Lemons & Flower - Acrylic Palette Knife Impressionistic Still Life Painting by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski

Lemons & Flower
Acrylic on Canvas
12" x 12"
Palette Knife

This painting was done for Lela Stankovic's Paint and Draw Together Blogspot. It was done with a palette knife using acrylic paint on a gallery wrapped 12" x 12" canvas. The bowl in her photograph was translucent, and I must admit defeat with painting that translucency and painted it a more opaque bowl. For the sake of art, some things have to be altered for the viewer to see a more understandable piece....and, this was one of those times. I also cropped and flipped her photograph... Please visit Lela's PADT site to see the original photograph and the many renditions being submitted by other artists. Aspens - Impressionistic Acrylic Palette Knife Landscape by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski

SOLD

Aspens

8" x 10"

Acrylic on 300 lb watercolor paper

Palette Knife

This painting was done for Gary Keimig's Wilderness Art Challenge. This palette knife painting was a little unique in that my acrylics had turned fluid because of the "wet palette" being too wet. But, the knife was still picking up the paint, so I just continued to go with it. It gave me some effects, here and there, that I didn't mind and was thankful for. This painting can be put into a standard 8" x 10" frame, or matted and framed to a larger size. A painting of a cougar on the edge or brink of an unstable structure. Does it collapse? Will he jump? Will it all remain stable? Definitely a need to make some decisions. Do we sometimes find ourselves in this position? If you have any questions, contact Pat at patsfineart@hotmail.com

Afternoon Delight - Acrylic Contemporary Impressionistic Still Life by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski

"Afternoon Delight"

20" x 10"

Acrylic on canvas

"Afternoon Delight" was painted for Lela Stankovic's Paint and Draw Together Challenge 6....Fresh Figs. I love figs and have 3 trees in our yard. Every year for the last 5 years, I get figs, green and hard, much the size of marbles. But they never ripen for me. So, to do this challenge made me think of sitting around the pond in the afternoon, eating fresh, ripened figs and drinking champagne. This will be the closest I get to that delightful dream unless I find them at a market someplace in the area, and even that is a rarity for this area of South Central Pennsylvania. Lotus and Loosestrife - Impressionistic Acrylic Plein Aire Palette Knife Landscape by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski

Lotus and Loosestrife
8" x 10"
Acrylic

I was painting at Wildwood Wetlands on Wednesday with our group, the Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters, to try to get the yellow lotus and purple loosestrife before they make their exit for the year. I tried another palette knife piece, a little larger this time. I'd like to go even larger, but don't know about how to handle the amount of paint I would have to put out. A lot of interested people stop to talk, and acrylics can dry on you fast, especially when there is a breeze. I've tried using the wet palette, but that can liquify my paint and I want the full body consistency for the knife work. If you have any questions, or wish to purchase, contact Pat at patsfineart@hotmail.com If interested in viewing more of my paintings, please visit my website at:

Golden Haze - Acrylic Nonobjective Abstract by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski

" Golden Haze"
24" x 49"
Acrylic on canvas

Golden Haze is a painting that I have posted before. However, there are 3 receptions today; I have posted the one "Winery by the Woods" Soiree being held at Hunters Valley Winery today from 5 -8:00 pm in Liverpool, PA. The Golden Haze painting will be showing at the Art & Soul Gallery at the West Shore Farmer's Market in Lemoyne, PA for the month of August. Some interesting or maybe amusing facts about this painting is that it was rejected twice by the York Art Association. Once, because it was 1" too large to meet the requirements of the prospectus and once because it was too small....it needed to be 36" or larger on all sides, and of course despite the fact that it is 49" on the one side, it is still only 24" in height. A lesson to all to carefully read the prospectus. It did take an award at the Harrisburg Art Association last year, so I was happy for that. If in the area, stop by to see Lyn O'Neal the new owner of Art and Soul and have a fun time at the reception today from 11am to 2pm. If you have any questions, please contact Pat at patsfineart@hotmail.com

After the Rain - Acrylic Plein Air Impressionistic Farm Landscape by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski

After the Rain
14" x 18"
Acrylic on Board

This painting was painted plein air on the Hertzler Farm off Locust Point Road in Mechanicsburg, PA. The farm's wet, puddled lane caught my eye. Off to the right, in a view not shown, were a herd of cows. A newborn calf had gotten away from his mom, and somehow through the electric fence, and 2 of our brave and compassionate artists attempted to reunite this calf with her mom. A kodak moment in it's own right and making memories. When the owner arrived, we made sure to alert him to the predicament that the calf found itself in. So, we left assured that the little one would be looked after. This painting was done plein air at Wildwood Sanctuary off Industrial Road, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The wild irises were in bloom; the water lilies were just starting to think about opening. Mule Deer Buck - Acrylic Wildlife Animal Painting on Board by Daily Painter Pat Koscienski

Mule Deer Buck
12" x 16"
Acrylic on Board
This painting was done from a photograph posted on Gary Keimig's Wilderness Art Challenge Blogspot. I did "flip" Gary's photograph so the deer is walking from left to right in my painting.
The mule deer are named for their unusually large ears, but they resemble mules in no other way. It was interesting to do research and read about the differences between a mule deer and a whitetail deer. The "muleys" are less adaptable and remain more of a wilderness species. Mule deer seldom raise their shorter, ropelike tails, which are dull white with black tips. And, the main beams of their antlers each branch into two beams, each then branching again. There are a lot more differences, but too many to name them all in this blogspot. However, enjoy the painting and be sure to visit Gary's blogspot for more paintings of the mule deer.

SOLD
This painting was started plein aire in Willow Park, Camp Hill, PA and finished in the studio from a reference photo that I took at that time. This painting will be showing at Art & Soul Gallery on Friday where I will be demonstrating some of the techniques of plein aire painting. If in the area, drop in and say HI and look around the gallery. It is located on the 2nd floor of the West Shore Farmer's Market at 900 Market Street in Lemoyne, PA. This painting was done for Lela Stankovic's Paint and Draw Together Challenge to paint texture and to choose the best possible title for the painting. We were also challenged to imagine where the 2nd strawberry went. I guess I didn't leave too much to the imagination with that one. Although I posted this, I still have work to do on the mouse. The strawberry is painted bigger than life, but I wanted it to be the focal point of the painting. Orris House Inn - Original Acrylic Small Town USA Plein Aire Painting by Pennsylvania Painter Pat Koscienski

Orris House Inn
14" x 11"
Acrylic on Canvas

This was painted plein air at the Orris House Inn Bed & Breakfast on 318 W. Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA. The owners, Barb and Kevin Jackson graciously invited our group to paint at their estate. The building is so complex I decided to paint a corner of their porch. The porch, rocking chair, & flag made a wonderful composition and reminded me of a scene from any small town, USA. Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Deep Canvas
Nectarines and Champagne was painted for Lela Stankovic's challenge on her paint and draw together blogspot. A wonderful photograph is posted to paint from. These loose, abstracted Canna Lilies were done for James Parker's Windows to the Words Art Challenge for April---Flower Power. Bright, acrylic painting on canvas. If I were to do it over, I would have flipped the photo and had the flowers going into the painting from left to right...the way we read. Luz Mar - Original Acrylic Impressionistic Boat Painting of Lugar Amarilla Golf, Canary Islands by Pat Koscienski

Luz Mar
8" x 10"
Acrylic on Canvas
Luz Mar is a painting that I did for Bill Guffey's The Virtual Paintout Challenge for April. We were to visit the Canary Islands, use Goggle map street view, and wander around the streets until we found something we wanted to paint. ....a virtual paintout. I found this boat that was out of the water for, perhaps repairs, and a dramatic skyscape, that caught my eye rather quickly. I'm a low key painter, which one can see in this painting, but again, the camera does add more darkness. I tried to keep it looser than I have been painting for these challenges...I tend to tighten up when painting from photos.
