"Winter at Fort Hunter" was painted from a photograph taken at Fort Hunter. Those familiar with Fort Hunter...my back is to the mansion door and I am facing south on the east shore of the Susquehanna River. The Rockville Bridge, the world's (?) longest, stone railroad bridge, is seen in the distance. It was a cold, crisp day and I think the colors reflect that. I tried to add a little warmth to it with the yellow ochers. It is an oil painting done on shellacked, 300lb watercolor paper. You can check out the sizes above from unframed, matted, and matted with frame. The frame is a plain, plein aire-like frame silverish in color which goes well with the alizarin crimson in the painting. At present, there is plexiglass over the painting. Since we got our first snowfall yesterday, in the Harrisburg area of South Central Pennsylvania, I couldn't resist posting this painting.
