I overlooked posting this painting from my winter series on my blogspot. I really wanted it included because there are clients and buyers who appreciate winter painting all year long and not just in the winter. That it sold, is proof of that. It is one of the 4 winter scenes that I was inspired to paint because of the heavy snows that we got this past winter. This is the lane that goes up to our neighbors' house and property. However, if you make a right hand turn after approximately the 4th tree, you would end up in our parking pad. This painting was done mainly with a palette knife. Forest's Secret Beauty - acrylic palette knife landscape painting of waterfall by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski
This acrylic painting was done using a palette knife. I wanted to try to paint a little looser, thinking the palette knife would help me keep it more painterly. However, I now know I can get tight with detail using a brush and even a palette knife. Application of paint using the palette knife, does, however, help me pick up the paint more. I regret not using a thickening medium, since my acrylic paint can tend to get too liquid since I lay it out on moist paper towels. If you have any questions, or wish to purchase, contact PAT. Brook's Morning Trickle - Acrylic Abstracted Palette Knife Landscape Painting by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski
This painting was inspired by a small trickle of water that flowed down the brook that fed into Nanty-Glo, PA's reservoir. The beautiful colors from the mosses, leaves, and water were moving. Lemons & Flower - Acrylic Palette Knife Impressionistic Still Life Painting by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski
This painting was done for Lela Stankovic's Paint and Draw Together Blogspot. It was done with a palette knife using acrylic paint on a gallery wrapped 12" x 12" canvas. The bowl in her photograph was translucent, and I must admit defeat with painting that translucency and painted it a more opaque bowl. For the sake of art, some things have to be altered for the viewer to see a more understandable piece....and, this was one of those times. I also cropped and flipped her photograph... Please visit Lela's PADT site to see the original photograph and the many renditions being submitted by other artists. Lotus and Loosestrife - Impressionistic Acrylic Plein Aire Palette Knife Landscape by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski
8" x 10"
Acrylic
I was painting at Wildwood Wetlands on Wednesday with our group, the Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters, to try to get the yellow lotus and purple loosestrife before they make their exit for the year. I tried another palette knife piece, a little larger this time. I'd like to go even larger, but don't know about how to handle the amount of paint I would have to put out. A lot of interested people stop to talk, and acrylics can dry on you fast, especially when there is a breeze. I've tried using the wet palette, but that can liquify my paint and I want the full body consistency for the knife work. Trout Run Wetlands - Acrylic Palette Knife Impressionistic Plein Air Landscape by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski
This painting was done plein air at Trout Run Wetlands off Stumpstown Road in Mechanicsburg, PA. It was one of those "hot" days and the humidity and air was thick, even in the morning.
