"Winter at Fort Hunter" by Pennsylvania Daily Painter Pat Koscienski

"Winter at Fort Hunter"
31" x 43" framed
24" x 36" matted
18" x 30" unframed
Oil on shellacked 300lb w/c paper

"Winter at Fort Hunter" was painted from a photograph taken at Fort Hunter. Those familiar with Fort Hunter...my back is to the mansion door and I am facing south on the east shore of the Susquehanna River. The Rockville Bridge, the world's (?) longest, stone railroad bridge, is seen in the distance. It was a cold, crisp day and I think the colors reflect that. I tried to add a little warmth to it with the yellow ochers. It is an oil painting done on shellacked, 300lb watercolor paper. You can check out the sizes above from unframed, matted, and matted with frame. The frame is a plain, plein aire-like frame silverish in color which goes well with the alizarin crimson in the painting. At present, there is plexiglass over the painting. Since we got our first snowfall yesterday, in the Harrisburg area of South Central Pennsylvania, I couldn't resist posting this painting. As my page opened, an "ooohhhh Pat!" escaped on a sigh. This is beautiful my blogger friend. I love the cool tones as they do indeed reflect the crispness of the day...You live in a very beautiful state indeed (I've been there!) and I love your landscapes!

I agree with Autumn on those impressive cool tones - I can feel the crisp air just looking at it. I love the mood and harmonies in this painting. Another great one, Pat!

Thanks, Tatiana. Sometimes, winter seasons are like the autumn seasons....some nicer than others. This was a good year; a nice snow fall that lasted for awhile.

Thanks, Autumn, I'll bet you get and keep more snow that we do because of the Great Lakes...or am I wrong? I could almost feel my breath freeze that day.

Thanks, Lyn, that means a lot coming from you. The Art & Soul reception was wonderful and your family is great. A really great turnout.
