Orris House Inn - Original Acrylic Small Town USA Plein Aire Painting by Pennsylvania Painter Pat Koscienski

Orris House Inn
14" x 11"
Acrylic on Canvas

This was painted plein air at the Orris House Inn Bed & Breakfast on 318 W. Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA. The owners, Barb and Kevin Jackson graciously invited our group to paint at their estate. The building is so complex I decided to paint a corner of their porch. The porch, rocking chair, & flag made a wonderful composition and reminded me of a scene from any small town, USA. What a great idea to just take a smaller area of that lovely, huge home. I am really familiar with this place as I used to pass it daily to and from work, and you have done a fantastic job of capturing the charm of this beautiful old Victorian home.

Pat, I think this is such a beautiful piece! I love small town USA type of paintings. They always bring such a nostalgic set of emotions for me. Gorgeous work!

Claire, that is probably the only way I can do buildings. For me to get the architecture right, I forfeit the painterly quality that I strive for. I get so overwhelmed with the "correctness", that I pull out the t-squares and really tighten up.LOL

Autumn, the flag and rocking chair is usually a big selling point for me. It's a beautiful building, but would be a big challenge to paint. A graphic artist would do well with it.

Pat,
The colors are just beautiful in this piece, and I am absolutely in love with the way you painted the area behind the flag - it's misty and soft and just gorgeous. Such a beautiful job! So serene I just want to stay there.

Julie, Thank you for the wonderful comments. We'd love you to visit out this way, and I'm sure the Jackson's would have a room waiting for you!! I heard Kevin is a wonderful cook, also. LOL
