Coffee Time - Impressionistic representational acrylic still life painting of coffee cup and cookies by Pennsylvania Contemporary Artist Pat Koscienski

"Coffee Time"
8" x 10"
Acrylic on stretched canvas

This painting was done from a photo Lela Stankovic posted for the Paint and Draw Together Blogspot Challenge.  I liked the chiaroscuro challenge of it.  Chiaroscuro is derived from the the latin words, chiaro meaning light and scuro meaning dark.  It provides such a dramatic effect.  Of course Rembrandt was the master of this technique, along with Caravaggio...if only I could channel them.  If you have any questions, or wish to purchase, contact PAT.  To see more of my paintings, both representational and abstract, please visit my website at:

It is beautiful and oh so warm! You did an awesome job, Pat. Thank you for the definition. I've heard of it and knew what it meant, but had forgotten.

Thanks, Sherry. I had trouble with this photo rotating when I posted it, much like you had a while back. Did you ever figure out what the problem was?
