This Sunday, April 1, marks the formal opening of the Preserved Lands Exhibit at York Art Association. YAA has partnered with the Farm and Natural Lands Trust of York County, and will be featuring landscape paintings of York County's Preserved Lands by 30 local artists. I was invited to paint Art Glatfelter's Field Stone Meadows Horse Farm. After touring and photographing this beautiful property on a gator driven by Sherri Becker in July, 2011, I chose to paint this scene using a photo as reference. The painting depicts both the roughness of the land and the beauty and softness of its crop.

The reception is from 2:00 to 4:00 on Sunday, April 1, at YAA, 220 S Marshall St, York, PA. Please stop by if you are in the area. The exhibit will be on display until April 22.

She will be exhibiting Fred and Fiona, and 2 other paintings of roosters and hens from the middle of March to the middle of April at CALC. Other artists have been painting aceo's and atc's for her to display as a "hen house" or other display she may creatively come up with. Especially the part "Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them." This painting was done for Lela Stankovic's Paint and Draw Together Blogspot. It was done with a palette knife using acrylic paint on a gallery wrapped 12" x 12" canvas. The bowl in her photograph was translucent, and I must admit defeat with painting that translucency and painted it a more opaque bowl. For the sake of art, some things have to be altered for the viewer to see a more understandable piece....and, this was one of those times. I also cropped and flipped her photograph... This painting was done for Gary Keimig's Wilderness Art Challenge. This palette knife painting was a little unique in that my acrylics had turned fluid because of the "wet palette" being too wet. But, the knife was still picking up the paint, so I just continued to go with it. It gave me some effects, here and there, that I didn't mind and was thankful for. This painting can be put into a standard 8" x 10" frame, or matted and framed to a larger size.
